Mainframe Storage Specialist

Overview

Mainframe Storage Specialist responsible for administering DASD and tape storage in z/OS environments, supporting a production mainframe estate and solving complex storage problems for Kyndryl's clients.

What you'll do

• Perform Mainframe Storage Administration, including DASD and tape configuration, migration, allocation, backup, recovery and capacity management in z/OS environments.
• Ensure optimal storage performance and availability using z/OS (MVS), DFSMS, DFSMSHSM, DFSMSDSS, DFSMSDFP and DFSMSRMM, and storage device management.
• Use mainframe utilities and tools including TSO/ISPF, JCL, VSAM, ISMF, JES2, SDSF, REXX, SAS, IDCAMS and ICF Catalogs, and manage PS, PDS, PDSE and GDG datasets.
• Administer and support tape management and storage solutions using CA-1, CA Disk, CA Allocate, FDR products, ICKDSF and OMEGAMON XE for monitoring, reporting and performance analysis.
• Troubleshoot storage issues such as space abends, dataset allocation failures and catalog inconsistencies, and generate SMF, DCollect and BVIR reports for capacity planning and operational support.
• Recommend modernization options, identify new business opportunities, and build relationships with other teams and stakeholders.

What you'll need

• 8+ years of experience in Mainframe Storage Administration.
• Experience with DASD and tape data storage solutions, including DASD/tape configuration and migration for mainframes.
• Working knowledge of the z/OS operating system, z/OS (MVS) fundamentals, storage fundamentals and storage devices.
• Good knowledge of TSO, ISPF, JCL, VSAM, ISMF, JES2, Catalogs, datasets (PS/PDS/PDSE/GDG), REXX, SAS, SDSF and Spool.
• Good knowledge and experience of MF Tape and DASD management, covering DFSMS, DFSMSHSM, DFSMSDSS, DFSMSDFP, DFSMSRMM, ICF Catalog, VSAM, IDCAMS, CA products (CA Disk, CA Allocate and CA-1), FDR products, OMEGAMON XE or related storage monitoring tools, ICKDSF, space abends, and SMF/DCollect/BVIR reports.

Nice to have

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
• Technical support for a production mainframe environment of multiple LPARs, CECs, DASD and VTS controllers.
• Experience in storage box data migration (DASD to DASD and tape to tape) and storage replication.
