Mechanical Engineer III

Overview

Design and develop precision mechanical systems for scientific instruments and laboratory equipment, from concept through production. Lead value engineering and cost-reduction work while ensuring accuracy, stability, manufacturability, and product performance.

What you'll do

• Design precision components, fixtures, and motion systems for TEM/SEM platforms.
• Develop GD&T schemes and tolerance stack-up analyses for micron- and sub-micron-level assemblies.
• Perform structural, thermal, vibration, and deformation analyses using FEA.
• Apply tolerance compensation, datum strategies, and precision alignment techniques.
• Lead VAVE initiatives to reduce cost while maintaining performance and quality.
• Support design reviews, risk assessments, DFMEA, and engineering changes.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, metrology, optics, vacuum, systems, and supplier teams.

What you'll need

• 9+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Strong fundamentals in mechanics, machine design, and precision engineering.
• Expertise in GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and statistical tolerancing.
• Experience with system-level precision and stability requirements.
• Experience with FEA tools such as ANSYS or Abaqus.
• Experience with CAD tools such as Creo, SolidWorks, or UG.

Nice to have

• Experience with electron microscopy, semiconductor equipment, aerospace, or satellite systems.
• Experience with scientific instruments or medical devices requiring micro-scale precision.
