Principal AI Engineer

Overview

Principal AI Engineer for Mitratech’s HotDocs team, setting the technical direction for AI and delivering enterprise AI capabilities in a remote-first role.

What you'll do

• Own the architecture for AI capabilities, including model management, LLM/agent orchestration, retrieval strategy, evaluation, and cost/latency management.
• Ship new AI-powered enterprise features from prototype to production using .NET Core and React.
• Lead AI adoption across the SDLC, including coding assistants, agentic workflows, test generation, code review, and documentation.
• Build trustworthy AI with evaluation harnesses, guardrails, observability, and AI governance practices.
• Apply .NET and React expertise to modernize and refactor legacy code and improve scalability and reliability.
• Lead and mentor through code reviews, design reviews, pairing, and written guidance.

What you'll need

• 12+ years of professional software development experience, including a principal/lead/staff technical role.
• Strong .NET Core (C#) and React (TypeScript) (or similar SPA frameworks) and hands-on engineering.
• Experience designing and shipping production AI solutions (LLM integration, prompt engineering, RAG, MCP, agentic/tool-calling systems).
• Hands-on experience with cloud AI platforms (e.g., Azure OpenAI/AI Foundry) and orchestration frameworks such as Semantic Kernel.
• Experience building and maintaining REST APIs.
• Experience evaluating and improving AI system quality, including benchmarking and handling non-deterministic behavior.
• Experience using Git and collaborating in modern workflows (e.g., PRs, branching strategies).
