Principal Engineer (Java/Node, AWS)

Overview

Principal Engineer leading the architecture and evolution of Autodesk’s Concurrent Editing Platform for real-time collaboration at scale.

What you’ll do

• Lead architecture and development of scalable, real-time collaboration platforms using Java or Node.js.
• Design and drive distributed, event-driven microservices with focus on scalability, resiliency, latency, and observability.
• Own platform capabilities end-to-end across architecture, engineering practices, quality, deployment, operations, and production support.
• Lead complex technical initiatives from requirements clarification through delivery.
• Drive technical alignment across teams including architects, product management, and platform engineering.
• Act as a technical leader during production incidents with root-cause analysis and systemic improvements.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.

What you’ll need

• 12+ years of software engineering experience with expertise in backend and distributed systems.
• Experience building microservices using Java, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security, Spring Data JPA, and RESTful APIs.
• Deep hands-on experience with AWS cloud services.
• Proven experience building scalable, highly available distributed platforms and microservices.
• Strong understanding of concurrency, event-driven systems, caching, synchronization, and fault-tolerant architectures.
• Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives across multiple engineering teams.
• Strong technical leadership, problem-solving, communication, and mentoring skills.
