Principal Infrastructure Engineer

Overview

Principal Infrastructure Engineer to design, build, operate, and scale the platform powering Sezzle.

What you’ll do

• Own core infrastructure architecture and its evolution.
• Improve throughput, reduce latency, remove capacity bottlenecks, and strengthen resilience.
• Build and operate AWS infrastructure and Kubernetes platform capabilities.
• Scale and optimize Aurora RDS (MySQL and/or Postgres) including tuning and safe migrations.
• Define reliability targets (SLOs/error budgets) and implement failure isolation and safe retry/backpressure behaviors.
• Participate in on-call and lead incident recovery and postmortem remediation.
• Improve observability, automation (infrastructure-as-code), and disaster recovery capabilities.

What you’ll need

• 12+ years of experience across relevant infrastructure/platform/SRE/software engineering.
• Deep expertise in AWS, including compute, IAM, multi-account architectures, and networking (VPC design and private connectivity).
• Deep expertise in Kubernetes in production (cluster lifecycle, scheduling, resource management, autoscaling, and troubleshooting).
• Deep expertise with relational databases at scale, specifically RDS/Aurora (MySQL and/or Postgres) covering performance, indexing, connections, replication, and high availability.
• Strong coding/automation skills using Golang, Python, or similar languages and infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform or equivalent.
• Strong systems fundamentals including Linux, networking, DNS, TLS, storage, concurrency, and distributed failure modes.
• Experience operating a 24/7 high-availability platform with hands-on incident response and postmortem remediation.
