Principal Software Engineer - Identity & Access Management

Overview

Principal Software Engineer (Identity & Access Management) to lead Sezzle’s authentication and authorization platform evolution, including an API auth gateway and identity services.

What you'll do

• Own the technical vision and roadmap for authentication and authorization, including the API auth gateway.
• Architect, design, and build scalable auth services and gateway components primarily in Golang.
• Lead phased, zero-downtime migrations of auth traffic and functionality with rollback and safety mechanisms.
• Define and evolve auth standards across OAuth2/OIDC, token strategies, and fine-grained authorization models.
• Partner with Security and Compliance to meet security and regulatory requirements.
• Establish best practices for observability, security, and CI/CD; participate in on-call and incident response.

What you'll need

• 12+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant backend experience.
• Hands-on expertise in authentication and authorization systems (OAuth2, OIDC, SAML, JWT, session-based auth).
• Experience designing/building/operating an API gateway or auth proxy at scale.
• Strong proficiency in Golang and experience building RESTful APIs.
• Expertise with SQL RDBMS (MySQL/PostgreSQL) and performance optimization.
• AI-forward engineering experience using AI tooling in development work.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or similar technical field (required).
