Principle Software Engineer (Java)

Overview

Principal Software Engineer (Java) to lead architecture, design, and hands-on delivery for a security-critical, multi-tenant fintech platform for issuing and managing virtual payment/transit cards.

What you'll do

• Own architecture and design for scalability, security, and performance in a schema-per-tenant multi-tenant platform.
• Provide end-to-end hands-on technical leadership for payment-grade, security-sensitive correctness.
• Build and evolve core Java 17/21 subsystems for virtual card lifecycle, tokenization, key management, and wallet provisioning.
• Ensure reliable external integrations with retries, timeouts, and idempotency for card networks, HSM/key-management services, and downstream REST/SOAP endpoints.
• Design Kafka/Apache Camel messaging/integration and caching with Redis.
• Own data design and performance across PostgreSQL and Oracle, including Liquibase migrations and Hibernate/JPA tuning.
• Produce design docs, architecture diagrams, threat models, and mentor engineers on secure coding standards.
• Drive CI/CD using Jenkins (pipeline-as-code), Gradle, and Docker.

What you'll need

• 10+ years of software development with strong Java.
• 3+ years of technical leadership/architecture experience.
• Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Hands-on Java EE, Spring Boot, and Spring for long-lived service-oriented backends.
• Security and cryptography skills including TLS/PKI, key management, HSMs, encryption/signing, and secure handling of sensitive data.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and Oracle using Hibernate/JPA (SQL Server is a plus).
• Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices/service-oriented architecture.
