Research Engineer, Economic Research Data Platform

Overview

Research Engineer for Anthropic’s Economic Research Data Platform team, building and maintaining scalable data infrastructure that supports research on AI’s economic impact.

What you'll do

• Build and operate data pipelines to convert raw usage data into clean, reusable, privacy-preserving datasets.
• Design new systems including classifiers, training probes on model internals, and ML pipelines to understand Claude usage and economic impact.
• Build self-serve workflows to ingest and integrate external data sources with internal datasets.
• Develop APIs, libraries, and interfaces to serve data to researchers and the public.
• Ensure data reliability, integrity, and privacy compliance across economic research data infrastructure.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance Anthropic’s safety mission through research data systems.

What you'll need

• Significant experience building data-intensive applications, pipelines, or internal tooling in production.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure platforms such as AWS or GCP.
• Python experience writing clean, well-documented code for others to build upon.
• Comfort making technical decisions with incomplete information while keeping engineering standards high.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with economists, researchers, and cross-functional partners.

Details

• Location-based hybrid policy: expected in one of the company’s offices at least 25% of the time.
