Overview
Freelance Scriptwriter to draft cinematic, narrative-driven audio tour scripts for venues and neighborhoods using Dex’s established writing frameworks.
What you'll do
- Script character-voiced audio tours based on a research brief with itinerary, route, and per-exhibit research.
- Transform in-depth research into immersive, conversational storytelling for audio-led walking tours.
- Collaborate with a tour producer who curates the tour’s creative direction.
- Revise scripts through multiple rounds of feedback (approximately 3 rounds) per tour.
- Absorb and follow Dex guidelines including scripting, voice casting, and structure.
- Choose compelling facts and craft a distinct narrative angle for each venue and neighborhood.
What you'll need
- 3-5 years of demonstrated narrative or scriptwriting output (audio, video, podcast, or long-form storytelling).
- Ability to produce a writing sample that finds a non-obvious story in a well-documented place.
- Strong research instincts, including sourcing rigor and comfort digging past initial sources.
- Comfort writing within a structured creative framework and taking direct editorial notes.
- Reliable availability for iterative turnaround cycles typical of freelance engagements.
Nice to have
- Experience in documentary filmmaking or short-form video journalism.
- Freelance experience working to an external editorial framework rather than an in-house style.
- Interest in history, urban geography, and place-based storytelling.
