Scrum Master

Overview

Manage the efficient delivery of large-scale technical projects and capabilities across the bank, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders throughout the software product lifecycle within agreed time, budget and quality requirements.

What you'll do

• Manage delivery, resource allocation and improvement of complex technical project capabilities using Agile/Scrum methodologies for planning, stand-ups, demos, retrospectives and sprint execution.
• Collaborate with customers and business teams to manage and implement customer trials, supporting technically feasible solutions and effort and timeline expectations.
• Collaborate with software engineers, quality teams, product managers and other engineering teams to deliver high-quality products and features aligned to the bank's objectives, regulation and security policies.
• Identify, assess and mitigate risks associated with technical projects.
• Manage change requests and communicate with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Manage vendor relations on technical projects to ensure delivery according to agreed terms.
• Stay abreast of latest industry technology trends, evaluate and adopt new approaches to improve delivery outcomes, and foster a culture of continuous learning, technical excellence and growth.
• Facilitate and time-box all Scrum ceremonies: Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Backlog Refinement, Sprint Reviews and Retrospectives, ensuring they are value-driven, outcome-focused and aligned to MCP ways of working.
• Support teams in defining Sprint Goals, managing commitments and avoiding spill-overs.
• Ensure user stories have clear acceptance criteria, are estimated with team consent, and follow Agile best practices.
• Coach teams on Agile and Scrum principles, fostering ownership, accountability and self-organization.
• Create a psychologically safe environment that enables honest reflection and continuous improvement.
• Identify and remove impediments and blockers to maintain delivery momentum.
• Promote Agile hygiene including Jira updates, correct status/labels and transparent reporting.
• Act as a bridge between delivery teams and Product Owners, Tech Leads, Architects, Release/Integration teams and other Scrum Masters, proactively managing cross-team dependencies, risks and delivery constraints.
• Represent the team in MCP forums (e.g. design reviews, sprint demos, governance touchpoints).
• Escalate risks and issues with clear context and data-backed insights.
• Track and report delivery health using Agile metrics (e.g. sprint predictability, carry-over, team capacity).
• Support compliance with Barclays governance, risk and control expectations, ensuring transparency on delivery progress, risks and outcomes.
• Contribute to Quarterly / PI objectives and Scrum Master OKRs for MCP teams.

What you'll need

• Experience with Agile delivery and ceremonies.
• Experience as a Scrum Master in complex technology delivery environments.
• Strong understanding of Scrum, Agile and Lean principles.
• Experience working with cross-functional engineering teams (Dev, QA, Architecture).
• Strong facilitation, coaching and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to manage multiple stakeholders across business and technology.

Nice to have

• Scrum certification (CSM, PSM, SAFe SSM).
• SAFe or large-scale Agile exposure.
• Hands-on experience with Jira / Agile tooling.
