Senior Backend Engineer

Overview

Senior Backend Software Development Engineer to drive technical direction of critical backend systems and lead high-impact platform initiatives.

What you'll do

• Architect, design, and lead implementation of complex backend systems at scale.
• Define and drive technical strategy for a backend domain with key system design decisions.
• Own reliability and performance by setting SLOs, monitoring, and incident response best practices.
• Design scalable API frameworks and data models for multiple product teams and integrations.
• Lead cross-functional technical initiatives across frontend, infrastructure, product, and design.
• Drive refactoring to address tech debt and evolve legacy systems into maintainable architectures.
• Mentor engineers via design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on technical guidance.

What you'll need

• 3-6 years of experience building and operating production backend systems at scale.
• Expertise in at least one modern backend language: Python, Ruby, Go, Java, or Node.js.
• Ability to design and build distributed systems with decisions on decomposition, consistency, fault tolerance, and observability.
• Deep expertise with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL data stores.
• Knowledge of caching strategies (Redis/Memcached) and asynchronous messaging (Kafka/RabbitMQ).
• Hands-on experience with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code.
• Proficiency with AI-powered development tools and AI integration into the software development lifecycle.
