Senior Backend Engineer - Databases - Analytics | Germany | Remote

Overview

Build the underlying database and data platform for an AI-native data intelligence system. The role covers analytics and freshly stored data, with responsibility spanning architecture, implementation, operation, and production readiness.

What you'll do

• Design and operate ingestion, query planning, distributed query execution, and storage components.
• Build a multi-tenant database service with tenant isolation, quotas, usage tracking, audit logs, and background jobs.
• Develop APIs and database interfaces for AI agents, tools, CLIs, and internal applications.
• Instrument services with metrics, logs, traces, alerts, and dashboards.
• Shape architecture, service boundaries, storage choices, API contracts, and deployment patterns.
• Balance rapid experimentation with long-term reliability as the product moves to production.

What you'll need

• Experience building production-grade, user-facing software systems.
• Experience with distributed systems, catalogs and table formats, and query engines.
• Mastery of Go, C++, Rust, or a similar programming language.
• Experience delivering software used by customers in production.
• Experience in cloud-native environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience using observability tools to troubleshoot system behavior.
• Familiarity with AI technologies and frameworks.

Nice to have

• Experience building distributed query engines.
• Experience building data warehouses or data lakes.
• Experience building data engineering tools.

• Base compensation is EUR 97,000–121,000 yearly.
