Senior Backend Engineer – Users Infrastructure

Overview

Senior Backend Engineer to help architect foundational security and identity services for Weave’s Users Infrastructure team in India. You’ll lead the shift to a modern Identity and Access Management platform and own core services, integrations, and operational reliability.

What you'll do

• Own core authentication services for human and machine entities.
• Define fine-grained authorization modeling, inheritance, and enforcement across a multi-tenant hierarchy.
• Develop internal SDKs, gRPC contracts, and middleware for downstream engineers.
• Manage integrations including federated identity (SSO), SCIM provisioning, and M2M protocols.
• Improve observability (MTTD/MTTR) by integrating monitoring and load-testing into services.
• Own audit logging pipeline immutability/reliability and consistency of identity data.
• Set technical bar and operational culture for the India-based hub with async collaboration.

What you'll need

• 5+ years of backend engineering with significant time building distributed systems in Go.
• Deep understanding of AuthN/AuthZ primitives including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, and JWT.
• Proven ability to manage complex data migrations and distributed architecture.
• Ability to build gRPC-based microservices.
• Exceptional written clarity for creating Technical Design Documents (TPDs).

Nice to have

• Experience as an early member of a distributed team and building culture across time zones.
• Experience with Zanzibar-style authorization or SpiceDB and a Zero-Trust mindset.
• Experience shipping alerts, dashboards, and runbooks with a stop-and-fix approach.
