Senior Data Engineer, Cloud Content Platform

Overview

Senior Engineer on Roku’s backend and data team, focused on designing and operating large-scale distributed data pipelines and real-time processing systems for the Roku Content Platform.

What you'll do

• Define architecture and technical strategy for scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Provide technical guidance, run code reviews, and mentor engineers.
• Design and implement distributed systems, streaming solutions, content management systems, APIs, and data pipelines.
• Partner with Product, Operations, Business, and other engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Remain hands-on with critical features and architectural components.
• Drive monitoring, observability, performance optimization, and production reliability.

What you'll need

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with significant time in senior engineering roles.
• Proven expertise building scalable distributed and streaming solutions in production.
• Expert-level proficiency in Java or Scala (Python is a strong plus).
• Strong expertise in distributed systems architecture, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
• Advanced knowledge of databases (SQL/NoSQL), vector databases (e.g., Milvus), caching strategies, and data modeling at scale.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) at enterprise scale.
• Extensive experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).

Details

• Hybrid work: generally in the office Monday through Thursday; Fridays are flexible for remote work except for roles requiring five days in the office.
