Senior Database Architect

Overview

Senior Database Architect for AI-native data architecture, combining legacy SQL Server modernization with design of semantic and vector data infrastructure for AI agents and workflows.

What you'll do

• Analyze and decompose large SQL Server stored procedures (1,000+ lines) to extract logic into domain services.
• Design patterns to separate business rules from data access, making stored procedures thin data-access layers.
• Refactor database structures to align with domain-driven design concepts (bounded contexts, aggregates, domain events).
• Implement event-driven patterns such as change data capture, outbox, and event sourcing where appropriate.
• Optimize query performance, indexing strategies, and execution plans during modernization.
• Design semantic data models and vector database solutions for RAG, including embeddings, chunking, similarity search, and hybrid retrieval.

What you'll need

• 8–12 years in database engineering and architecture with significant enterprise SQL Server experience.
• Deep SQL Server expertise in T-SQL optimization, stored procedure design/refactoring, query plan analysis, indexing, and performance tuning.
• Hands-on modernization experience decomposing complex stored procedures and migrating business logic to application services.
• Multi-platform data architecture experience across SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB/Cosmos DB, and Snowflake/data lakehouse platforms.
• Practical production experience with event-driven patterns including CDC, Kafka, outbox, event sourcing, and CQRS.
• Vector database experience with at least one of: Pinecone, Weaviate, Milvus, pgvector, Azure AI Search, or similar.
