Senior Director, Solutions Engineering

Overview

Lead customer-facing Solutions Engineering (Customer Engineering) for pre-sales in enterprise AI/data solutions. Own pre-sales standards, guide the SE team, and shape enterprise deal qualification and delivery.

What you'll do

• Own pre-sales as a function by setting and enforcing opportunity qualification and POC scoping standards.
• Act as a check on the sales process by pushing back on deal scope or timelines when they don’t meet the bar.
• Coach and develop the Solutions Engineering team with specific feedback on technical approach and what customers need.
• Use technical fluency to evaluate whether architecture, POC design, or technical claims hold up.
• Partner with GVPs and account teams to qualify, resource, and run $5M+ enterprise deals.
• Build the operating rhythm for pre-sales including capacity allocation and opportunity prioritization.
• Recruit and scale the pre-sales bench by identifying gaps and hiring to close them.
• Assess deal quality rigorously and recommend whether deals are worth the team’s time.

What you'll need

• 8+ years in enterprise solution-selling pre-sales or sales engineering.
• Direct experience on complex $5M+ deals.
• People leadership experience required (building, coaching, managing a technical or pre-sales team).
• Define process, hold people to it, and drive operational rigor.
• Presence to engage with GVPs or enterprise sellers without being steamrolled.
• Technical fluency for AI/ML delivery, without needing to be the most technical person in the room.
• Sharp judgment on opportunity quality including qualification, technical fit, and deal health.

Details

• Location: Remote US (East Coast).
• East Coast location preferred and comfortable with travel and heavy customer-facing time.
