Senior Engineering Manager, Platform

Overview

Senior Engineering Manager to lead Platform Engineering teams for systems powering the policy lifecycle from customer entry through lifetime.

What you'll do

• Own outcomes for your domain end to end, including strategy, technical direction, and results.
• Hire, grow, and retain engineers and leads; mentor through design and architecture reviews.
• Partner with Product and Staff Engineers to build the technical roadmap and run quarterly planning.
• Own cross-team architectural decisions and internal standards (service decomposition, event schema evolution, contract stability, data consistency).
• Set the engineering quality bar across reliability, test coverage, incident response SLAs, and on-call health.
• Drive operational excellence via observability, runbook quality, postmortem culture, and toil reduction.

What you'll need

• 3+ years of engineering management experience in high-growth organizations.
• Experience managing platform teams (not only product feature teams).
• Strong written communication for PRDs, design docs, postmortems, and upward reporting.
• Experience with design patterns, code reviews, and disciplined unit/integration/contract testing.
• Hands-on experience with event-driven microservices (Kafka, async event processing, schema versioning).
• Backend architecture experience for high-scale web applications (relational databases, distributed caching, resilience patterns).
