Senior Engineering Manager – Service Transformation & Platform Capabilities

Overview

Senior Engineering Manager to lead service transformation teams and deliver shared, domain-oriented services while modernizing application foundations.

What you'll do

• Lead service transformation teams and build/manage small ownership squads.
• Own delivery cadence, quality, and predictability for a multi-year transformation in quarterly increments.
• Translate target architecture into sequenced, executable migration and cutover plans with engineering partners.
• Drive standards for shared services (design, contracting, versioning, documentation, and consumption).
• Lead incremental strangler-style migrations, staged cutovers, dual-running, and post-cutover hypercare.
• Modernize legacy, database-centric business logic into testable cloud-native services.
• Establish quality/validation systems and enable AI-native engineering workflows.
• Recruit, coach, and develop engineers; coordinate execution across product, program, principal engineering, SRE, security, and data teams.

What you'll need

• Substantial experience leading backend or platform teams delivering complex, high-throughput production systems.
• Experience decomposing monoliths and extracting services with clear domain boundaries and migration strategies.
• Hands-on backend/distributed-systems fluency in Java and Spring (or comparable enterprise ecosystems).
• Experience with compatibility strategies, staged rollout, data migration, dual-running, rollback, and operational realities.
• Quality and operational discipline across automated testing, code review, observability, secure coding, and production validation.
• People development experience including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
• Cross-functional execution experience communicating risk and sequencing work against dependencies.
