Senior Mobile Engineer - Instrumentation SDK (iOS) | UK | Remote

Overview

Build and evolve high-performance iOS instrumentation SDKs for mobile observability, integrating signals such as traces, metrics, logs, crashes, and user sessions with OpenTelemetry and Grafana Cloud.

What you'll do

• Build and evolve iOS SDKs using Swift and Objective-C.
• Design and ship session tracking, crash reporting, sampling, context propagation, and OpenTelemetry features.
• Own projects from design through delivery and iteration.
• Maintain automated tests, CI, documentation, and backward-compatible upgrades.
• Collaborate with backend, frontend, product, and solutions engineering teams.
• Review pull requests and engage with open-source contributors.
• Mentor teammates and help shape the mobile observability roadmap.

What you'll need

• Strong iOS engineering experience with Swift and Objective-C.
• Experience building or maintaining mobile SDKs, platform libraries, or developer-facing platform code.
• Experience with performance-sensitive code, including startup time, memory, or network efficiency.
• Familiarity with OpenTelemetry or similar telemetry libraries.
• Ability to work autonomously and handle ambiguous scopes.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working in a fully remote, globally distributed team.

Nice to have

• Contributions to OpenTelemetry, crash-reporting libraries, or observability open source.
• Experience with React Native, Flutter, or native bindings and bridges.
• Experience with mobile security, privacy, or platform integration.
• Experience with crash aggregation, session replay, or mobile telemetry sampling.

• Compensation: £91,000–£114,000 per year.
