Overview
Senior Power Systems Engineer focused on core/system-level electrical design for Fluence’s grid-scale battery energy storage (BESS) products.
What you'll do
- Develop requirements and electrical designs for multi-MW energy storage systems integrating battery, power conversion, transformer medium voltage, controls hardware, communication, auxiliary power, and safety equipment.
- Prepare technical product information such as performance metrics, datasheets, and configuration limitations and support sales engineering tools.
- Coordinate cross-functional collaboration for project goals across mechanical, Electrical, Software, verification/testing, and manufacturing.
- Lead product integration to ensure functions and features fit together and define implementation tasks for component changes.
- Oversee electrical studies including short circuit analysis, protection sizing, protection coordination, and arc flash.
- Support compliance by evaluating safety standards and local codes and assisting with system-level certifications.
- Direct electrical drawing package inputs by overseeing a CAD drafting team and support system-level documentation.
What you'll need
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (full time) or equivalent.
- 5–9 years of proven experience in Electrical Power Systems Design in renewables (solar, wind, hydro, BESS) power generation or related industries.
- Experience in BESS system design including component selection (breakers, fuses, relays) for DC/AC circuits, functional safety analyses, auxiliary load estimation, and battery sizing/configuration.
- In-depth experience selecting electrical components and interfaces including batteries, inverters, inverter-duty transformers, BMS, EMS, and LV AC/DC switchgears with IEC/NEC/IEEE/ANZ standards.
- Familiarity with NFPA 70, IEC 60364, UL 9540, and IEC 62933.
- Ability to perform and review electrical studies (short circuit, protection sizing/coordination, harmonic and arc flash analysis).
- Knowledge of industrial control philosophies and communication protocols.
