Senior Software Engineer, Autonomy Evaluation

Overview

Senior Software Engineer for Autonomy Evaluation, working on the evaluation ecosystem for GM’s autonomous driving development and verification.

What you'll do

• Architect and implement metrics and analyses to introspect autonomous driving performance across the autonomy stack.
• Design and implement algorithms to summarize, aggregate, and cluster simulation and on-road metrics.
• Propose statistical and ML methods to quantify performance and identify behavior patterns across scenes and domains.
• Develop methods to introspect ML components (perception, prediction, and planning models).
• Build autonomy evaluation dashboards and interactive reports (e.g., trends, drift detection, scenario coverage).
• Use VLMs/LLMs where appropriate to classify performance, identify critical scenarios, and prioritize validation.
• Maintain engineering quality via system design, code reviews, testing, observability, and best practices.

What you'll need

• 5+ years applied experience in robotics or autonomous systems software, data analysis, ML evaluation, or autonomy analytics.
• 3+ years evaluating dynamic systems with numerical and/or ML approaches, including time-series and state derivatives.
• Strong production Python experience including testing, performance, and code review.
• Proficiency with Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, and plotting/visualization libraries.
• Comfort working with C++ codebases (reading, debugging, instrumenting algorithms).
• Education: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in specified fields or equivalent practical experience.
