Senior Software Test Engineer

Overview

Senior Software Test Engineer on a cross-functional team building the next generation of digital signage tooling, spanning a CMS, signage presentation platforms, and high-volume reporting and analytics, in an agile, DevOps-oriented environment.

What you'll do

• Validate quality across signage components such as content repository, design, scheduling, integration, deployment, player performance, reporting and analytics.
• Troubleshoot in AWS including CloudWatch, DynamoDB, MySQL, IoT Core, S3, and CloudFront to find problem sources and contribute to resolutions.
• Flag testing, risk, and observability considerations early in design and planning, including writing lightweight test strategy and plans.
• Ensure effective automation at the appropriate layers (API/service, data validation, and UI as needed).
• Explore and responsibly introduce AI-assisted quality practices where they create measurable improvements in speed, coverage, reliability, or insight, while preserving human judgment and appropriate review gates.
• Champion a whole-team quality approach.
• Contribute to non-functional testing (performance, scalability, resilience, security).
• Facilitate collaborative quality activities (exploratory testing, risk workshops, bug bashes).
• Help define and mature automated quality gates, regression suites, and evaluation-style checks that can support both today's delivery process and future AI-assisted development workflows.
• Partner with Product, UX, and Engineering to translate product intent into clear, testable acceptance criteria and risk-based test strategies.
• Use production telemetry, customer workflow data, observability signals, and CI/CD feedback to prioritize testing and identify quality risks earlier.
• Partner with Engineering and Product as we pilot AI-assisted delivery workflows, helping assess where AI can safely support test generation, defect triage, documentation, MR review, and delivery reporting.

What you'll need

• 7+ years in Software Testing/Quality Engineering.
• Hands-on experience validating complex SaaS platforms, distributed systems, APIs, data workflows, and user-facing product experiences.
• Experience with AWS services (e.g., CloudWatch, DynamoDB, MySQL, IoT Core, S3, and CloudFront).
• Experience with GitLab (or equivalent CI/CD platform) for automated testing and delivery.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and API/service testing.
• Proficient in at least one programming language (preferably in Java and TypeScript).
• Experience building or contributing to automated testing frameworks (API/service and data validation).
• Automation experience with Playwright for API and UI testing; familiarity with Selenium-based frameworks is helpful.
• Experience with load/performance testing.
• Strong grounding in agile, DevOps, and CI/CD practices.
• Experience establishing a whole-team quality strategy and coaching teammates.
• Ability to build a strong understanding of customer workflows and use production telemetry to guide testing.
• Practical experience using AI-assisted development or testing tools such as Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, CodeRabbit, GitLab Duo, or equivalent.
• Ability to review AI-generated tests, code, documentation, or analysis for correctness, maintainability, security, and fit to customer intent.
• Experience collaborating across distributed teams, using clear written context, async-friendly documentation, and structured handoffs to maintain quality across time zones.

Nice to have

• Experience with observability tools (CloudWatch, X-Ray, Prometheus/Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
• Familiarity with testing containerised workloads (ECS/EKS), serverless patterns, or IaC (CloudFormation/Terraform).
• Experience with analytics and visualisation tools such as Power BI, Looker, or Tableau.
• Experience with test data generation techniques and tools, including synthetic data creation, data masking.
• Experience driving quality improvements at a team level.
• Community involvement (Meetups/Conferences, blogs, Open-Source contributions).
• Experience using AI/GenAI tools for synthetic test data generation, test design, log analysis, defect triage, documentation, or automation support.
