Senior Technical Program Manager, Data Science

Overview

Mastercard is seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager, Data Science, to manage complex data science projects that address fraud-related problems through AI and support new product offerings. The role partners with data scientists, product managers, engineers, and senior leaders to deliver projects from business understanding through model deployment and monitoring.

What you'll do

• Act as the primary liaison between product and data science, managing day-to-day planning and execution of data science projects through the entire engagement process, from business understanding through model deployment and monitoring.
• Serve as the first point of contact for teams or the business line/service and the single source of truth for project status.
• Build strong partnerships with product and technology teams and ensure alignment with data science efforts.
• Translate technical approaches and outcomes into business language.
• Define roadmap deliverables and develop execution plans.
• Align dependencies and track progress.
• Anticipate risks and provide escalation management.
• Make sound trade-off decisions.
• Clearly articulate scope, timelines, dependencies, owners, actions, risks, and mitigations.
• Report progress to teams and senior leadership in regular cadence, potentially representing segments of or the entire program.
• Work with data scientists and engineering teams to build or improve ways of working.
• Identify and mitigate risks or issues that may impact the plan.
• Conduct meaningful retrospectives and create action plans to implement changes at the team level.
• Help product, data science, and engineering teams make trade-off decisions by considering business goals, technical platform strategy, customer experience, and maintainability.
• Identify blocking issues and manage their resolution.
• Abide by Mastercard’s security policies and practices.
• Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of the information being accessed.
• Report any suspected information security violation or breach.
• Complete all periodic mandatory security trainings in accordance with Mastercard’s guidelines.

What you'll need

• Experience with project management, operating autonomously across multiple teams, with demonstrated critical thinking and thought leadership.
• Demonstrated experience breaking down problems, organizing work, planning, and building.
• Understanding of data science.
• Understanding business strategy and design approaches within product, program, or domain with depth to be credible and influential with teams.
• Proven track record of data-driven decision making and applying continuous improvement methodologies across teams.
• Demonstrated experience building relationships, partnering with, and influencing dependent teams while commanding the respect of individuals across the organization.
• Excellent organization, interpersonal, administrative, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication skills at all levels of the organization.
• Ability to work independently with a collaborative nature.
• Ability to navigate a matrix organization.
