Overview
Lead software development for bare metal infrastructure integrations using Python and OpenStack. Design, operate, and improve custom drivers and backends across core OpenStack services.
What you'll do
- Design and maintain drivers and backends for Ironic, Cinder, Nova, and Neutron.
- Contribute bug fixes and improvements to upstream OpenStack projects.
- Own design, testing, deployment, and operational health across the development lifecycle.
- Architect integrations with infrastructure systems including NetBox or Nautobot.
- Investigate production incidents and drive root-cause fixes.
- Lead technical decisions, reviews, and engineering standards.
- Mentor engineers on OpenStack and bare metal infrastructure.
What you'll need
- 10+ years of software development experience.
- 4+ years of hands-on production OpenStack experience.
- Strong Python skills, including async patterns, pytest, tox, and OpenStack SDKs.
- 5+ years in Linux or Unix environments.
- Production experience writing or extending OpenStack drivers or backends.
- Experience with Kubernetes or similar orchestration environments.
- Knowledge of bare metal provisioning, networking, debugging, and observability.
Nice to have
- Upstream OpenStack contributions and Gerrit or Zuul experience.
- Ceph or other distributed storage experience.
- Go proficiency.
- NetBox or Nautobot automation experience.
- Hardware attestation, secure boot, or firmware management experience.
- Network automation or SDN integration experience.
