Overview
Software Development Manager role for automation and AI-enabled developer tooling within HPE Hybrid Cloud.
What you'll do
- Lead a team of roughly 10 engineers building test automation, IO validation, and AI-enabled developer tooling.
- Manage headcount, deliverables, schedules, and costs across multiple ongoing engineering projects.
- Communicate project status and escalate issues to managers, program managers, and development partners.
- Manage relationships with outsourced partners and suppliers, including deliverables, quality, schedules, and costs.
- Identify process improvement and cost reduction opportunities for the team.
- Provide people-care management including performance plans, coaching, and career development.
- Act as the primary bridge between the India-based engineering team and globally distributed stakeholders across time zones.
What you'll need
- 10+ years of software engineering experience.
- 2 to 5+ years directly leading engineering teams (individual contributors and/or leads).
- A BS or MS in CS, CEE, or a related engineering discipline with supporting experience.
- Experience operating in a globally distributed organization with teams/stakeholders in another country and time zone (ideally India and the US).
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English for concise technical status and risk updates.
- Strong technical grounding in SDLC, CI/CD, and agile and/or waterfall project management.
- Track record influencing peers and leadership without formal authority via negotiation and data.
Nice to have
- Experience with test automation, hardware/storage validation, or developer productivity tooling.
- Familiarity with modern AI engineering concepts including agents and applied LLM tooling.
- Experience managing outsourced partners, suppliers, or contingent staff alongside a core team.
- Working knowledge of Python, React, C++, and Go for design review and technical discussions.
