Overview
As a Software Development Engineer III on the Identity Profile team, you will own critical, high-scale services supporting Universal Profile data, APIs, business events, sign-in, and checkout across Expedia Group brands. You will lead design and delivery from design documentation through production rollout while improving reliability, latency, operational excellence, and engineering quality.
What you'll do
- Lead design and implement highly scalable products and solutions using high-quality, clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
- Own multiple business-critical services and lead design and delivery end to end from design documentation to production rollout.
- Find opportunities for process and technology improvements and work towards adoption and implementation.
- Assist with supporting production systems, including investigating issues and working towards resolution.
- Exercise creativity, provide alternative solutions, remove roadblocks, and drive issues to closure.
- Create and update documentation to share knowledge between team members.
- Actively participate in group technology reviews to critique the work of self and others.
- Participate in and formulate user story creation in partnership with the team and product managers.
- Closely collaborate with Senior and Principal Developers and the Product Manager to find effective solutions to problems.
- Give thorough design and code reviews and mentor SDE 1/2 engineers.
- Help improve test coverage, including E2E and performance testing, documentation, and AI-assisted workflows.
- Improve alerting, runbooks, and incident learnings, and take part in on-call.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's or Master’s in a related technical field, or equivalent related professional experience.
- 5+ years of software development experience with a Bachelor's degree or 3+ years with a Master’s degree.
- Experience in an object-oriented language, such as Java or Kotlin.
- Experience designing REST, gRPC, or GraphQL APIs/MCP servers.
- Ability to design and build moderately complex, well-defined software systems.
Nice to have
- Experience with cloud-computing platforms, such as Amazon Web Services.
- Experience managing tier-0/tier-1 applications.
- Experience with both relational and non-relational data stores.
- Understanding of CI/CD methodologies, source control with Git, and monitoring/logging tools, such as Splunk or Datadog.
- Experience working in an agile team environment, conducting peer reviews, and mentoring junior engineers.
- Experience maintaining projects in production environments, including bug fixing and troubleshooting.
