Job description

Overview

Build and maintain the PayPal POS app on Android phones and Zettle Terminal hardware, working on merchant features from sign-in and checkout through receipts, refunds and invoices.

What you'll do

  • Implement tasks within the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), with structure and oversight from more experienced staff.
  • Follow established internal conventions and standard procedures, and apply internal standards and processes to technical decisions.
  • Collaborate with peers, manager and project lead to understand tasks and review solutions.
  • Contribute to code and design reviews.
  • Make checkout and receipts fast and reliable for merchants at the counter, on phones and on terminals.
  • Deliver features across product library, inventory, purchase history, refunds and invoices.
  • Help legacy Zettle merchants move onto PayPal identity with a smooth sign-in and onboarding experience in the app.
  • Improve app stability, release quality and crash-free sessions across a wide range of devices.
  • Build and ship features in Kotlin and Java using Jetpack libraries, coroutines and Jetpack Compose.
  • Integrate with backend services over REST and GraphQL; handle auth and session flows.
  • Work with Bluetooth reader connectivity and terminal hardware integration under guidance.
  • Write unit and instrumentation tests, and take part in code reviews, CI/CD and staged releases.
  • Investigate crashes and production issues using analytics and monitoring, and fix root causes.
  • Pair with Sweden engineers, and write documentation and runbooks for areas you take over.

What you'll need

  • 1+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree, OR any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1 to 3 years of Android development experience with strong Kotlin.
  • Hands-on experience with Jetpack, coroutines, networking and local persistence.
  • Experience with unit and instrumentation testing and CI/CD pipelines for mobile apps.
  • Understanding of secure handling of sensitive data on device.
  • Clear written and spoken English, and comfort working across time zones with teammates in Bangalore and Sweden.
  • A habit of writing things down: runbooks, design notes and decision records.

Nice to have

  • Jetpack Compose.
  • Interest in payments; experience with Bluetooth peripherals, NFC or POS hardware.
  • Java, GraphQL clients, device management and app distribution tooling.
  • Curiosity about payments and a sense of care for the merchants and customers who depend on the product.

Details

  • Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India.
  • Hybrid: 3 days in the office and 2 days at PayPal office or home workspace (for the majority of employees).
  • Subsidiary: PayPal Travel.
