Software Engineer

Overview

What you'll do

• Develop and deliver high-quality software solutions using industry-aligned programming languages, frameworks and tools.
• Ensure code is scalable, maintainable and optimized for performance.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
• Participate in code reviews and promote code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and contribute to technology communities.
• Apply secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data and ensure secure software solutions.
• Implement effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability and reliability.
• Lead collaborative assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, or lead a team performing complex tasks if the position has leadership responsibilities.
• Identify the need for additional areas of specialisation and new directions for assignments or projects.
• Consult on complex issues and provide advice to People Leaders on escalated issues.
• Identify ways to mitigate risk and develop policies and procedures supporting control and governance.
• Manage risk and strengthen controls in relation to the work done.
• Collaborate with other areas to support business-aligned activities and keep up to speed with business activity and strategy.
• Analyze data from multiple internal and external sources to solve problems creatively and effectively.
• Communicate complex information and influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
• Work directly with end users and BAs to elicit requirements and work through design and implementation.
• Build high-performance applications that process large amounts of data.
• Run and support structured testing.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement, design and architecture of the overall solution.

What you'll need

• Extensive hands-on development experience with Core Java (Java 17+), Spring Framework and Spring Boot.
• Ample proficiency in Python or Scala programming languages.
• Experience with Apache Spark and big data processing frameworks.
• Hands-on AWS experience with S3, EC2, ECS, Lambda, RDS, Glue, Athena, data pipelines and Step Functions, plus knowledge of analytical services.
• Experience with distributed computing architecture.
• Experience with Core Hadoop components: HDFS, Spark, YARN, Hive, Impala and HyperCube.
• Expertise in HQL.
• Experience working directly with end users and BAs to elicit requirements and work through design and implementation.
• Experience building high-performance applications that process large amounts of data.
• Skilled communication with people at a wide variety of levels and capabilities.
• Experience with Agile (SAFe) methodology and software development approaches.
• Experience with VCS tools such as Git or equivalent.
• Experience running and supporting structured testing.
• Ability to advise and influence decision-making, contribute to policy development and take responsibility for operational effectiveness.
• Ability to collaborate closely with other functions and business divisions.
• Ability to communicate complex information, including sensitive or difficult-to-communicate information.

Nice to have

• Investment banking or risk experience, or willingness and capacity to learn complex financial concepts relevant to the role.
• Experience with DevOps or automation (CI/CD) via TeamCity, Jenkins, GitLab or equivalent.
• Working knowledge of microservices.
• Working knowledge of Kafka.
