Software Engineer - Core Trading

Overview

Build and architect Alpaca's algorithmic trading platform, focusing on high performance, scalability, concurrency, and reliable brokerage experiences. The role involves hands-on software engineering across frontend, backend, databases, distributed systems, and low-level performance.

What you'll do

• Build and architect an algorithmic trading platform.
• Write production code across frontend and backend systems.
• Optimize systems for low latency and high throughput.
• Design scalable, highly available distributed systems.
• Apply concurrency control and object-oriented data modeling.
• Make architecture and delivery decisions for customer-facing systems.

What you'll need

• Strong software engineering experience.
• Lead experience is preferred.
• Coding skills in Go and C/C++.
• Experience with messaging queues and message brokers.
• Knowledge of algorithms, databases, distributed systems, scalability, and concurrency.
• Experience with highly scalable, distributed, low-latency systems.
• System design skills covering service-oriented architecture and system abstraction.

Nice to have

• Algorithmic trading experience.
• Experience developing order or risk management systems.
• FIX protocol knowledge.
• Experience with trading or exchange systems.
• Experience with observability, tracing, profiling, and benchmarking.
• Experience with GCP, Docker, or Kubernetes.
