Overview
Software Engineer II on the Mastercard Payment Networks team, focused on customer experience through innovation, problem-solving, and development of quality software. The role involves building scalable backend or full-stack applications and collaborating with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment.
What you'll do
- Develop and maintain high-quality, scalable applications with a strong focus on design, code quality, and maintainability.
- Build backend services using Java (17+), applying core Object-Oriented principles, SOLID practices, and standard design patterns.
- Contribute to development of microservices-based applications using frameworks such as Spring Boot and foundational event-driven concepts.
- Translate well-defined requirements into efficient and reliable technical implementations.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth integration and successful delivery.
- Develop and deploy solutions in a CI/CD-enabled environment, such as PCF or similar cloud platforms.
- Implement appropriate data persistence solutions, including RDBMS and NoSQL such as Cassandra, based on application needs.
- Follow coding standards, quality practices, and program guidelines to ensure clean and reliable code.
- Participate in Proof of Concepts (PoCs) and technology evaluations with guidance from senior engineers.
- Identify issues during development and testing phases, and contribute to timely resolution.
- Communicate progress, challenges, and technical details effectively within the team.
- Actively participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to team commitments.
- Collaborate closely with peers and demonstrate strong teamwork and ownership.
- Support and mentor junior developers when required, while also driving continuous self-learning.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and development practices.
- Abide by Mastercard’s security policies and practices.
- Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of the information being accessed.
- Report any suspected information security violation or breach.
- Complete all periodic mandatory security trainings in accordance with Mastercard’s guidelines.
What you'll need
- Strong foundation in Full Stack or Backend development with a passion for building quality software.
- Good understanding of Java, Spring Boot, and modern application development practices.
- Experience working on online / real-time systems.
- Working knowledge of database technologies including RDBMS and NoSQL, such as Cassandra.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to learn quickly and adapt.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Basic mentoring capability and willingness to support team growth.
- Familiarity with CI/CD practices and tools.
Nice to have
- Exposure to event-driven architecture and distributed systems concepts is an advantage.
- Exposure to cloud platforms, such as PCF or similar, and digital-native architectures is desirable.
