Overview
Software Engineer II role for Mimecast’s Managed Threat Response team in Bengaluru, India.
What you'll do
- Own meaningful parts of Mailroom and Threat Portal and contribute to Managed Email Incident Response and Remediation products.
- Design, build, and run solutions while working through ambiguity to identify what needs solving.
- Design new services and components and migrate legacy ones with scalability, reliability, and observability in mind.
- Use agentic AI development tools across design, implementation, testing, refactoring, and documentation, and coach peers on responsible use.
- Own merge quality including tests, reviews, observability, and rollback paths.
- Lead root cause analysis for production incidents spanning multiple systems and implement preventive work.
- Engage in Agile activities such as backlog refinement, planning, reviews, demos, and retrospectives.
What you'll need
- About four or more years building production software, including components/services owned beyond first release.
- Engineering fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, concurrency, API design, and testing.
- Ability to think about reliability, performance, and security before code reaches production.
- Proven AI-first development practice using agentic coding tools in day-to-day work.
- Critical judgement about where AI tools fail and discipline to not merge code you cannot explain.
- Strong proficiency in at least one modern backend language; stack is primarily Python and Django.
- Platform skills including relational data modeling/query performance and experience with distributed building blocks like caching and search, plus containerization, CI/CD, and foundational AWS services.
Nice to have
- Front-end experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, Angular, or React.
- Java experience.
- Prior work in cybersecurity or email security.
- Hands-on experience building LLM-backed application features such as retrieval, tool use, or evaluation harnesses.
