Software Engineer, Platform

Overview

Software Engineer, Platform at Speechify, building and owning backend systems that power the public TTS API and related services.

What you'll do

• Design, build, and own backend APIs for payments, subscriptions, auth, consumption tracking, and the public TTS API.
• Improve existing services for speed, cost, and reliability.
• Validate correctness before changes ship and maintain checks after changes.
• Automate parts of the role that shouldn’t require manual effort.
• Build B2B and enterprise integrations for customers using the platform.
• Collaborate with product, mobile, and web teams to keep backend architecture ahead.

What you'll need

• Proven backend experience in TypeScript/Node (required).
• Direct experience with GCP.
• Working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or another cloud.
• A habit of sharing and giving away work you previously owned.
• Ability to describe a daily working setup with AI agents (unattended vs reviewed work).
• Instinct to verify results against system state (logs, database state, actual request) rather than summaries.
• Ability to judge what not to build and explain why.

Nice to have

• Docker and containerized deployments.
• Experience deploying high-availability applications on Kubernetes.
