Staff Backend Software Engineer - Loki | Australia | Remote

Overview

Design, build, operate, and maintain backend systems for Loki, Grafana Labs’ distributed log database and cloud service. The role focuses on reliability, performance, availability, and end-to-end project ownership.

What you'll do

• Design and build critical backend systems.
• Operate and maintain reliable, performant services.
• Drive projects from ideation through customer operations.
• Deliver features and iterate based on results.
• Participate in on-call rotations.
• Mentor teammates and contribute to design discussions.
• Contribute to open-source projects.

What you'll need

• Solid experience with at least one programming language.
• Experience delivering software projects from requirements through customer release.
• Experience developing cloud software or working in systems engineering.
• Experience writing clean, robust, performant, maintainable software.
• Good communication skills and an independent working style.
• Customer focus, pragmatism, and a bias toward action.

Nice to have

• Experience with databases, storage layers, or query engines.
• Experience working with Kubernetes.
• Experience using Grafana or Prometheus in operational roles.
• Exposure to microservices and distributed systems.
• Familiarity with on-call, SRE, or infrastructure-as-code practices.

Details

• Remote role available to candidates in Australia or Singapore.
• Base compensation in Australia: AUD 168,000–210,000 yearly.
