Staff Engineer, Software

Overview

Lead technical direction and build backend services and high-throughput data pipelines that transform diverse content into structured, searchable intelligence. Own systems end to end while influencing architecture, cross-team initiatives, reliability, and engineering standards.

What you'll do

• Set technical direction, define architecture, and own the technical roadmap.
• Turn ambiguous problems into scoped, deliverable technical initiatives.
• Design and deliver scalable pipelines and production-grade backend services.
• Evaluate and integrate AI/ML capabilities into production systems when appropriate.
• Lead RFCs, architectural reviews, and cross-team technical initiatives.
• Monitor SLOs and SLIs, troubleshoot production issues, and improve reliability.
• Mentor engineers and raise engineering standards through reviews and documentation.

What you'll need

• Strong Python skills.
• Production experience in at least two programming languages.
• Experience designing and owning production systems serving users at scale.
• Experience leading cross-team technical initiatives without formal authority.
• Strong system design skills covering failure modes, data flow, scalability, and operational cost.
• Deep experience with Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and observability.
• Experience mentoring engineers and raising team standards.

Nice to have

• Experience leading large-scale migrations or platform rewrites.
• Production experience with AI/ML, including LLMs, BERT, NLP pipelines, or document understanding.
• Experience with content processing, enrichment, or search systems at scale.
• Familiarity with Java, GitOps, ArgoCD, or Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools and workflows.
