Staff+ Software Engineer, Data Infrastructure

Overview

Staff+ Software Engineer for Data Infrastructure, building secure, privacy-respecting data processing, storage, and access systems that support Anthropic’s data-driven decisions.

What you'll do

• Design and implement robust access control systems for sensitive data.
• Build infrastructure for permission management, audit logging, and compliance-related requirements.
• Develop and maintain data pipelines and warehouses for business-critical financial reporting.
• Own reliability for systems processing revenue, usage, and business metrics.
• Architect disaster recovery, backup, and replication for petabyte-scale cloud storage.
• Scale data processing and analytics tooling using BigQuery/BigTable/Airflow/dbt/Spark.
• Optimize query performance and manage costs to enable self-service analytics.

What you'll need

• 10+ years of experience (excluding internships/co-ops) in a Software Engineer role building data infrastructure/storage/distributed systems.
• 3+ years (excluding internships/co-ops) leading large-scale, complex projects or teams as an engineer or tech lead.
• Ability to set technical direction for a team (not only execute tasks).
• Deep experience with at least one of Python, Go, or Java.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Pulumi) and cloud platforms (GCP, AWS).
• Ability to navigate tradeoffs across performance, cost, security, and maintainability.
• Excellent collaboration skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Details

• Work mode: hybrid, with staff expected to be in an office at least 25% of the time.
• Annual compensation range: $405,000–$485,000 USD.
• Visa sponsorship is available, but not guaranteed for every role/candidate.
