Staff+ Software Engineer, Safeguards Review Tooling

Overview

Staff+ Software Engineer on the Safeguards Review Tooling team, building internal tooling and a platform that safety investigators use to investigate potential harms and carry out enforcement actions across first-party products and third-party cloud platforms.

What you'll do

• Build investigation, review, and enforcement tooling for first-party and third-party platform surfaces.
• Develop reusable platform APIs, data storage, and backend services for new review workflows.
• Scale review through automation, including Claude-assisted review workflows.
• Partner with policy, operations, legal, privacy, and data science stakeholders to turn needs into reliable systems.
• Add guardrails including granular permissions, audit trails, data-access controls, and reviewer wellbeing features.
• Instrument tooling to surface metrics on queue health, reviewer throughput, and decision quality.

What you'll need

• Technical background in full-stack or platform engineering.
• Experience shipping internal tools or platforms with operationally demanding users.
• Experience working cross-functionally with non-engineering partners such as operations, policy, or legal.
• Excellent communication skills, including explaining technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders.
• Care about the societal impacts of AI and making powerful systems safer.
