Staff Software Engineer

Overview

Staff Software Engineer on Twilio’s Data Substrate team, focused on architecting scalable, reliable data solutions.

What you'll do

• Act as a subject matter expert in distributed systems and data technologies.
• Architect and implement scalable data systems, storage solutions, and processing frameworks.
• Drive technical innovation and research in emerging data technologies and best practices.
• Mentor and coach engineers to foster technical excellence and continuous learning.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and security across the data lifecycle.

What you'll need

• 8+ years of software development experience focused on data infrastructure.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, Bash, and Go.
• Strong expertise with big data components including Kafka, Clickhouse, and Spark.
• Experience scaling containerized production systems using Kubernetes (K8s) and Terraform/Helm.
• Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale data platforms on AWS.
• Ability to mentor and lead engineers.

• Role is remote and based in the United States.
• Not eligible to be hired in San Francisco, CA; Oakland, CA; San Jose, CA; or surrounding areas.
• Occasional travel may be required for in-person project/team meetings.
