Structure Engineer - Detail Design & Site commissioning

Overview

As a Senior Associate Design Engineer, design structural systems for Solar Turbine Construction Services products and Oil & Gas projects, including gas compression stations, power generation projects and BOP systems. Participate in FEED, detail engineering, procurement, in-house fabrication and commissioning activities as part of a cross-functional team.

What you'll do

• Lead structural design efforts supporting industrial gas turbine packaging, gas compression and power generation projects, and BOP systems engineering and design.
• Apply discipline-related industry standards across engineering specifications and vendor documentation.
• Generate framing drawings, foundation drawings, detail drawings, structure plans and elevations, layouts and fabrication drawings.
• Perform structural member design, connection design, foundation design, pipe rack design, loading and load assessment, and design of pipe rack and cable tray support structures, platforms, ladders, handrails and roofs.
• Create 3D models, perform 3D model reviews, conduct clash checks and resolve clashes.
• Generate programming files, MTOs and BOMs from structural 3D models.
• Review vendor drawings and NWD models.
• Continuously improve fabrication activities in technical knowledge, efficiency, quality and productivity.
• Provide full technical support to the shop floor for assembly, shipping and commissioning.
• Support commissioning teams during equipment energisation and start-up.
• Monitor structural behaviour during load testing and operational testing.
• Investigate and resolve structural issues identified during commissioning.
• Provide engineering recommendations for field modifications when required.
• Capture, document, organize and archive relevant information using defined procedures and automated tools.
• Analyze problems, compare alternative solutions, identify influencing factors and use logic and intuition to reach conclusions.
• Communicate ideas, information and needs, deliver helpful feedback, make oral presentations and write reports needed for the work.
• Assist with engineering problem resolution, drafting and writing specifications, and report unusual engineering issues to senior staff.
• Troubleshoot typical technical problems using standard procedures and vendor-specific diagnostic guides, tools and utilities.
• Design 3D models using appropriate software and work with standard 3D software features.

What you'll need

• Minimum of 10 years of industry experience in engineering/design execution and associated applications.
• Significant, demonstrated results leading structural design efforts supporting industrial gas turbine packaging and associated gas compression and power generation projects and BOP systems engineering and design.
• Knowledge of discipline-related industry standards, including ASCE 7, IBC, AISC and OSHA.
• Experience applying standards across engineering specifications and vendor documentation.
• Comprehensive familiarity with CAD software packages supporting structural design.
• Broad knowledge of design and drafting techniques, including framing drawing generation, foundation drawing creation and detail drawing creation.
• Knowledge of structural engineering design codes and standards, including ASCE 7, IBC, AISC and OSHA.
• Experience with structural member design, connection design, foundation design and pipe rack design.
• Experience with 3D modelling using Autodesk Advance Steel and Revit.
• Experience with 3D model review, clash checking and resolution.
• Experience with 2D drawing generation, fabrication drawing generation and programming file generation.
• Experience preparing MTOs and BOMs from structural 3D models.
• Experience reviewing vendor drawings.
• Ability to learn global developments in EPC Oil & Gas project technologies and adopt them.
• MTech, BE or B.Tech in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited Engineering Institute.
• Well versed with Oil and Gas EPC projects with exposure to multi-disciplinary engineering teams.

Nice to have

• 6-8 years of Oil and Gas or Power Plant experience.
• Competency in definition drawings, 3D modelling and smart attributes.
• Competency in structural member design, connection design, foundation design, pipe rack design, loading and load assessment.
• Competency in pipe rack and cable tray support structures, platforms, ladders, handrails and roof design.
• Competency in structural analysis using STAAD Pro.
• Competency in structure drawings, including details, plans, elevations and layouts, and foundation drawings.
• Competency in MTOs/BOMs, NWD models, clash checks and vendor drawing review.
• Working experience with Advance Steel, Revit, Tekla, STAAD Pro, AutoCAD and E3D.
