Tech Lead Software Engineer Global - Observability Accelerators & AI

Overview

Tech Lead Software Engineer for Southwest’s Observability Accelerators & AI team, building cloud-native observability and AI-powered operations capabilities.

What you'll do

• Set architecture and platform strategy while mentoring engineers and leading design reviews.
• Build production-grade software and resilient AWS solutions using specified services.
• Apply expertise in logs, metrics, traces, Grafana, CloudWatch, Prometheus, and OpenTelemetry.
• Develop and maintain software with a focus on quality and maintainability.
• Create and execute unit, functional, and integration tests, emphasizing automation and test-driven development.
• Oversee performance testing and plan application deployments across non-production and production.
• Investigate new technologies, address technical debt, and evaluate code quality and standards.

What you'll need

• 8-10 years of relevant work-related experience.
• Expert level experience in software engineering.
• Advanced knowledge of software development methodologies, practices, concepts, and technologies.
• Advanced knowledge of at least one programming language.
• Knowledge of project management methodology and principles.
• Experience with AWS Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS, API Gateway, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CloudFormation).
• Understanding of CI/CD, Python, Grafana, CloudWatch, Prometheus, and OpenTelemetry.

Nice to have

• Automated testing, machine learning, anomaly detection, SRE, and cost optimization.
