Overview
As an API Engineer I, you will work on microservice APIs throughout the development process, with a focus on API and backend-service testing within the Credit team.
What you'll do
- Participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies and collaborate with cross-shore development and QA teams.
- Design, review, and execute test cases for APIs, backend services, and integrated systems.
- Perform functional, regression, integration, smoke, and sanity testing.
- Validate REST and SOAP services using tools such as Postman, SoapUI, or equivalent.
- Identify, log, track, and retest defects using Jira or similar defect-tracking tools.
- Work closely with developers and analysts to clarify requirements and test scenarios.
- Support test data preparation, test environment validation, and release readiness activities.
- Contribute to test automation efforts where applicable using Java-based frameworks or other approved tools.
- Analyze test results and support root cause analysis for production and pre-production issues.
- Continuously look for ways to improve test coverage, test efficiency, and product quality.
What you'll need
- Minimum 1+ year of experience in software testing or quality engineering.
- Hands-on experience testing REST and/or SOAP APIs.
- Good understanding of the software development lifecycle and Agile methodologies.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Familiarity with JSON, XML, HTTP methods, request/response validation, and status codes.
- Attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of AI Tools for software testing and Quality Engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related degree, or, in lieu of degree, High School Diploma/GED with knowledge of application development using Java.
- Critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
Nice to have
- Basic knowledge of Java for automation or technical test support.
- Experience in Java programming.
- Familiarity building and consuming web services via SOAP and REST.
- Familiarity with common Java frameworks like Spring and Spring boot.
- Familiarity with Jira, Bitbucket, and git.
- Familiarity with continuous integration environments.
- Familiarity writing unit and integration tests.
- Familiarity with JSON, REST, and XML-based web services.
- Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical peers.

- Knowledge of AI Tools for Developers, such as GitHub Co-pilot and Rovo; development of AI Agents; and understanding of tools, skills, and Instruction markdown files.
- Minimum 1 Year of Software Engineering Experience.
Details
- Location: Hyderabad, India.
- The role may be remote and work from home, or the employee may come into one of the offices.
- The employee may be occasionally requested to commute to the nearest office for in-person engagement activities such as team meetings, training, and culture events.
- Work timings are 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM IST.
- The incumbent must be available between 06:00 AM Eastern Time and 11:30 AM Eastern Time for meetings with India and US teams; timings are anchored to US Eastern hours and adjust twice a year locally.
- The remaining hours will be flexible for the employee to choose.
- Exceptions may apply periodically due to business needs.
