Engineer I, Field Service

Overview

Field Service Engineer role installing, maintaining and repairing high-value analytical instruments such as electron microscopes and chromatography systems, while representing the company and building customer relationships.

What you'll do

• Install, maintain, and repair a diverse range of high-value analytical instruments, from electron microscopes to chromatography systems.
• Deliver exceptional technical service and build strong relationships with customers advancing critical research and innovation.
• Combine technical expertise with customer service skills to solve complex problems.

What you'll need

• Bachelor's Degree, no prior experience required.
• Strong electronics and mechanical aptitude with ability to diagnose issues down to component level.
• Excellent customer service skills and professional demeanor.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
• Fluency in English required; additional language skills welcome.
• Demonstrated problem-solving capabilities and analytical thinking.
• Proficiency with Windows operating systems, MS Office, and service management software.
• Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics and documentation.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel up to 50-75%.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
• Availability to work flexible hours and respond to emergency service calls.
• Must be able to obtain necessary credentials to access customer facilities.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively.
• Collaborative mindset with ability to work independently.

Nice to have

• Experience installing, troubleshooting, and repairing sophisticated analytical instruments.
• Preferred fields of study: Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Biomedical) or related scientific field.
• Advanced degrees or specialized certifications.
• Experience with ultra-high vacuum systems and high voltage equipment.

Details

• Location: Massachusetts, USA; remote.
• Work schedule: Standard, Monday to Friday.
• Travel: up to 50-75%.
• Emergency service calls may require flexible hours.
• Environmental conditions: some degree of PPE required (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs etc.); able to lift 40 lbs without assistance.
• Hourly pay range for Massachusetts: $26.39–$39.59; may be eligible for a variable annual bonus.
