Field Engineer, Public Sector

Overview

Field Engineer (Public Sector) serving as the technical face for Cursor with federal civilian and defense agencies. You partner with sales and stakeholders to evaluate, demonstrate, and validate Cursor through proofs of concept and technical scoping.

What you'll do

• Partner with AEs to own technical discovery, demos, POCs, and technical validation for new and expanded deals.
• Build trusted relationships across engineering, security, product, and IT stakeholders.
• Work in mission-critical and high-security environments, including developer workflows and AI tooling.
• Help customers connect Cursor to outcomes like developer productivity, secure software delivery, and mission velocity.
• Deliver technical presentations, whiteboards, and workshops for technical and executive audiences.
• Act as a technical advocate internally with Product and Engineering.
• Handoff from post-sales to support clean onboarding for success.

What you'll need

• Strong communication skills and executive presence.
• Comfort presenting to CTOs, CISOs, and program leaders.
• Understanding of the SDLC and ability to connect technical detail to mission and operational impact.
• Hands-on technical fluency with workflows, AI tooling, and complex/constrained environments.
• Deal-partner strategic instincts co-owning with AEs and navigating multi-threaded stakeholder maps.
• Experience in Field Engineering, Solutions Architecture, Pre-Sales, or Consulting, ideally in federal/defense or highly regulated tech.
• Ability to hold or obtain a federal security clearance (active clearance is a plus).
