Infrastructure Platform Engineering (SMTS, Software Engineering)

Overview

Software Engineer (SMTS) for Infrastructure Platform Engineering, working on modernization and platform efforts at Salesforce with a focus on migrating Tableau legacy hypervisor/VM infrastructure.

What you'll do

• Conduct technical discovery for a defined portion of legacy infrastructure and document findings and gaps.
• Partner with multiple infrastructure teams to design and implement target infrastructure architecture (AWS, Private Cloud, or hybrid).
• Develop and implement cloud solutions for medium-complexity problems with performance, scalability, and reliability in mind.
• Produce implementation plans (design, effort estimates, resource needs) and deliver against them.
• Execute migration and modernization of assigned legacy VM infrastructure while ensuring continuity of dependent services.
• Build and operate infrastructure solutions, including IaC and modern CI/CD pipelines, to improve deployment velocity.

What you'll need

• 6-8+ years of infrastructure engineering experience in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or DevOps.
• Hands-on experience with hypervisor/VM environments (including VMware vSphere/ESXi/Hyper-V/KVM or equivalent).
• Experience migrating on-prem or legacy VM workloads to public or private cloud at scale.
• Deep networking fundamentals knowledge (VPCs, VLANs, routing, firewall rules, DNS, load balancing).
• Knowledge of infrastructure security principles, including identity management and secrets management.
• Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tooling (Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, or equivalent) and infrastructure CI/CD pipelines.
• Ability to conduct technical discovery in complex legacy environments and produce structured architecture documentation.
