Intermediate Backend Engineer, AMER

Overview

Intermediate Backend Engineer to design, implement, test, and ship backend features and improvements, then follow up in production. Work in a product area with collaboration across Product Management, Frontend, Infrastructure, and Security in a remote, asynchronous environment.

What you'll do

• Own and ship backend features and improvements with minimal guidance, including follow-up in production.
• Write maintainable, secure, observable, and performant backend code.
• Design and build backend APIs, background jobs, integrations, and bounded service functionality.
• Implement testing and improve automated coverage (unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end where appropriate) and review others’ code.
• Investigate build, test, deployment, and runtime failures, identify technical debt, and propose improvements.
• Use AI productively in daily work, validating outputs and understanding limitations.

What you'll need

• Professional experience building and shipping production backend applications.
• Strong programming, API, database, testing, debugging, and performance fundamentals.
• Experience with Ruby/Rails, Go, or other modern backend languages.
• Ability to take a feature from clarification through delivery and follow-up while seeking input at the right time.
• Practical judgment across security, reliability, performance, maintainability, and operational risk.
• Strong written communication and effective collaboration in a remote, asynchronous environment.
• Practical experience with AI coding tools, including reviewing and correcting generated output.
