Manager, Software Engineering

Overview

Lead the design, development, modernization, delivery, and support of scalable, high-volume Java applications and microservices within the Card Payments ecosystem. Provide technical leadership, people management, payment domain expertise, and support for AI-driven engineering practices.

What you'll do

• Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, technical leads, and senior developers.
• Lead the design and development of enterprise-scale Java applications and microservices.
• Drive end-to-end delivery of projects and releases.
• Provide technical leadership for architecture, design reviews, code quality, security, performance optimization, and operational excellence.
• Drive architecture discussions and technical decision-making.
• Review system designs, code quality, and production readiness.
• Build and support highly available, resilient, and scalable payment processing platforms.
• Champion modernization initiatives, Agile, DevOps, and cloud-native engineering practices.
• Conduct performance reviews, career development discussions, and coaching sessions.
• Support hiring, onboarding, succession planning, and talent development.
• Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performance engineering culture.
• Drive Agile ceremonies and ensure predictable sprint execution.
• Manage risks, dependencies, and cross-functional coordination.
• Ensure operational excellence, reliability, and supportability of applications.
• Partner with Product, Architecture, Operations, and Business teams to deliver strategic initiatives.
• Translate business and payment processing requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Resolve complex payment processing and settlement issues through analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Handle responsibilities for information security, including abiding by security policies and practices, ensuring confidentiality and integrity of accessed information, reporting suspected security violations or breaches, and completing mandatory security trainings.

What you'll need

• 10+ years of software engineering experience.
• 3+ years of people management experience.
• Proven experience leading Java development teams.
• Experience delivering large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong background in Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• Experience working with cloud-native architectures and microservices.
• Deep understanding of card payments, transaction lifecycles, and payment network operations.
• Experience leading engineering teams responsible for critical payment platforms and customer-facing payment services.
• Familiarity with modernization of legacy payment systems into cloud-native microservices architectures.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java 11/17+, Spring Boot, Microservices, REST APIs, Kafka, and Distributed Systems.
• Java 8/11/17+, Multithreading & Concurrency, Collections Framework, JVM Performance Tuning, and Memory Management.
• Spring MVC, Spring Security, Spring Batch, and Hibernate/JPA.
• REST APIs, Microservices Architecture, API Gateway, Event-Driven Architecture, and Kafka or Messaging Platforms.
• Oracle, PostgreSQL, and SQL Optimization.
• AWS/Azure/GCP, Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift, CI/CD Pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code.
• Jenkins/GitHub Actions.
• Splunk, Dynatrace, and Application Performance Monitoring (APM).
• Ability to translate business and payment processing requirements into scalable technical solutions.

Nice to have

• NoSQL Databases (MongoDB/Cassandra preferred).
