Principal BI Engineer

Overview

Principal BI Engineer to architect, build, and improve enterprise reporting solutions across BI semantic layers, dashboards, and governed analytics.

What you'll do

• Architect, build, and improve enterprise reporting solutions including dashboards, semantic models, and embedded analytics.
• Design scalable Power BI semantic layers using dimensional modeling and governed metrics.
• Build and optimize reporting logic using SQL, DAX, Power Query, views, and stored procedures.
• Work across Azure, Azure Synapse, Power BI, and AWS to deliver secure and scalable reporting solutions.
• Establish reporting engineering standards for source control, testing, documentation, releases, monitoring, and production readiness.
• Improve reporting reliability using validation checks, reconciliation, refresh monitoring, regression testing, and runbooks.
• Mentor engineers and analysts by reviewing designs and creating reference implementations.

What you'll need

• 8+ years of experience architecting and delivering reporting/BI/analytics engineering or enterprise/cloud data platform solutions.
• Deep hands-on experience with Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, DAX, Power Query, semantic models, refresh management, security, and performance optimization.
• Experience working with Azure, Azure Synapse, Power BI, AWS, and modern cloud-based data environments.
• Strong SQL skills including complex query, view, stored procedure, transformation, and reconciliation logic design/optimization.
• Strong understanding of dimensional modeling, star schemas, semantic-layer design, and governed business metrics.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex production reporting issues across data accuracy, refresh failures, logic, security, performance, or capacity.
