Overview
Lead product development for functional films, processing, adhesives, and material science within Film R&D, developing and commercializing products from concept through launch.
What you'll do
- Lead product development with expertise in functional film R&D, processing, and material science.
- Apply knowledge of extrudable, injection process, calender films, solvent process films, and latest commercial film formation technologies.
- Develop and apply permanent, removable, and pressure-sensitive adhesives tailored for low surface energy substrates and advanced adhesive technologies.
- Apply polymeric materials and their structure-property relationships.
- Use film processing additives for thin film formation and surface modification for printable inks.
- Test films for durability, exposure, and mechanical strength.
- Apply water-based, solvent, and eco-solvent printing technologies.
- Apply color science and physics to achieve desired shade and matting effects.
- Understand and benchmark commercial graphics applications to ensure product competitiveness.
- Generate new ideas and develop products from concept to product launch.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product launches and continuous improvement.
- Innovate and optimize product formulations to meet market demands and enhance performance.
- Develop and scale up new film formulations from lab to commercial production.
- Investigate and integrate new materials to advance product capabilities and sustainability.
- Provide technical support and training to customers on product applications and best practices.
- Work with raw material suppliers and third-party contract manufacturers.
- Work closely with manufacturing plants to develop local formulation and scale up production.
- Work in collaboration with the 3M global team, vendors, and external research institutions.
What you'll need
- M.Tech or Ph.D. in Polymer Science/Technology, Material Science, or a related field.
- 8 to 12 years of experience in product development, functional film R&D, and material science.
- Proven expertise in adhesives, polymeric materials, film processing, and sustainable material technologies.
- Experience collaborating with raw material suppliers and third-party contract manufacturers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Product development and lab testing skills and experience with the new product commercialization process.
- Strong planning and organization skills.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Ability to be a team player and work in collaboration with the 3M global team, vendors, and external research institutions.
