Research Engineer, Visual Knowledge Work

Overview

Research Engineer on the Vision team, owning end-to-end creation of training data and RL environments for visual knowledge work.

What you'll do

• Own the data strategy for vision capabilities end-to-end, including eval building and scaling RL environments.
• Manage external data vendor relationships, writing task specifications and evaluating visual data/annotation quality.
• Develop and improve QA frameworks to catch reward hacking and ensure environment quality at scale.
• Run generalization experiments to measure how data strategy changes improve multimodal capabilities on held-out evaluations.
• Partner with pretraining, RL, and product teams and conduct work that demonstrates shared alignment.

What you'll need

• 7+ years of ML, computer vision, and software engineering experience.
• Experience with reinforcement learning, reward design, or training data curation for large language or vision-language models.
• Familiarity with the architecture, training, and operation of large vision language models.
• Comfort managing technical vendor relationships and iterating based on feedback.
• Results-oriented approach with a bias toward flexibility and impact.

Details

• Annual compensation range: $350,000–$850,000 USD.
• Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
• Location-based hybrid policy: expect staff to be in an office at least 25% of the time.
• Visa sponsorship: the company sponsors visas (not guaranteed for every role/person).
