Senior Director BioTech Business Development (m/f/d)

Overview

Lead the scientific, technical and commercial development of Hitachi’s biological methanation activities, from pilot execution and process validation through partner development and market entry for renewable e-methane solutions.

What you'll do

• Advise on biological methanation pilot projects from process design review through commissioning and stabilization.
• Assess bioreactor integration, gas quality, process parameters and infrastructure interfaces.
• Develop business cases covering sourcing, regulation, licensing, revenue models, costs and risks.
• Identify opportunities with utilities, biogas operators, CO2 emitters, hydrogen producers and infrastructure companies.
• Lead biological methanation and BioCatalyst development, scale-up and performance monitoring.
• Manage patent matters with Hitachi, external IP lawyers and affected countries and entities.
• Coordinate technical-commercial collaboration across Hitachi entities, partners, suppliers and research organizations.

What you'll need

• PhD or equivalent scientific depth in biology, microbiology, biotechnology, chemistry, biochemistry or engineering.
• Experience developing and industrializing complex biotechnological products, processes or platforms.
• Scientific command of biogas, biomethanation, microbial catalysis, gas fermentation and process engineering.
• Understanding of renewable-gas markets, regulatory drivers, project finance, licensing and commercial risk.
• Experience scaling biotechnology processes from laboratory or pilot environments to industrial deployment.
• Professional working proficiency or higher in English and German.
• Competence with data analytics, AI-enabled knowledge management and performance dashboards.

• Japanese or additional European language skills.
