Senior Engineer

Overview

Arcadis is recruiting a Senior Engineer – Rail Structures / Senior Engineer – Structures to work on UK rail projects from Bangalore. The role is predominantly technical and focuses on bridge design consulting, structural design, project delivery, client support and technical leadership.

What you'll do

• Lead and oversee a team of engineers and BIM technicians working on complex projects.
• Coordinate with other disciplines.
• Engage with lead regions to define task scope and drive the team to deliver the scope.
• Understand codes and standards and develop solutions from first principles.
• Evaluate options and develop preliminary and detailed designs for permanent and temporary works.
• Provide site support.
• Appreciate safe design requirements and proactively flag risks.
• Follow and implement the GEC Management System and take responsibility for QA and QC.
• Establish and consolidate relationships with clients and other business leads.
• Use technical and domain knowledge to identify and realize new client opportunities.
• Upskill and encourage team members to seek out new technologies and implement innovation in projects.
• Seek and document regular client feedback on Arcadis performance, technical solutions and delivery, and advise on appropriate mitigation.
• Provide technical expertise and oversight to clients and stakeholders.
• Assist clients through technical decision-making and provide alternative options and solutions when project objectives change.
• Build effective and enduring relationships with other Arcadis offices to foster cooperation and maximize cross-sell and trade-up opportunities in relevant specialist fields.
• Manage and implement BIM and digital aspects through all project phases.
• Drive creative and independent thinking within the team, including the use of new digital technologies.
• Provide reassurance, confidence and direction to client and project team members.
• Assist in developing Arcadis talent through coaching and mentoring.
• Understand and implement best practice about sustainable development.

What you'll need

• BE in Civil Engineering and M Tech in Structures.
• 10+ years of bridge design consulting experience.
• Ability to lead and oversee a team of engineers and BIM technicians working on complex projects.
• Ability to coordinate with other disciplines.
• Understanding of codes and standards and ability to develop solutions from first principles.
• Strong command of design techniques and concepts, BIM, data visualization and presentation.
• Ability to appreciate safe design requirements and proactively flag risks.
• Ability to follow and implement the GEC Management System and take responsibility for QA and QC.
• Experience with structural design software such as STAAD.Pro, ROBOT, MIDAS, LUSAS and SOFiSTiK.
• Experience working with British Standards, Eurocodes, Network Rail Standards and Rail Group Standards.
• Experience designing steel, concrete, PSC and composite structures.
• Experience designing and assessing rail bridges and calculating load ratings of rail bridges.
• Ability to work independently or with a group of people.
• Ability to prepare general arrangement and reinforcement drawings.
• Ability to compute quantities.
• Ability to prepare design reports.
• Experience with MS Office software, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Ability to manage and implement BIM and digital aspects through all project phases.
• Deep understanding of future trends and technologies.

Nice to have

• Preferably a Chartered Engineer with ICE or IStructE, or actively pursuing Chartered Engineer status.
